[OS X TeX] TeXShop document icons

After months of frustration with this problem I finally did a clean install of the operating system on two different computers and for more than a month now the icons are back. I reformatted the HD before installing Mac OS and copied my files manually from backups — I did *not* use migration assistant to automatically restore the account. The process was not as painful as you might think, even with the multiple software updates that you need to run after installation, including a fresh installation of TeX Live. For this to work you need a bootable USB with the OS installer but you can find instructions on the web.
