I had a large number of figures for exams I was making (created in .tex) that got corrupted or disappeared altogether. I have since taken anything like that out of Dropbox and ended my 1TB account and went back to a free account.

You may be able to get away with it by turning syncing off during the time you work on the file(s). Click on the DB icon in the Menu Bar and hover over `up to date' in the lower left corner; it will change into a `pause syncing' which you can click.

In general I keep copies of the files on my HD, work on them there and then move final changes to DropBox.

Finally? Is George trying to compile on both systems at once? That is sure to get messed up as DropBox tries to sync both at once.

Good Luck,
