[OS X TeX] problems after getting new iMac

If you originally installed the MacTeX distribution, then the correct path should be /usr/texbin, so you may want to check that. There's a chain of symlinks from /usr/texbin to the actual /usr/local/texlive/2014 location, and there is a chance that may have been broken in the process.

To begin with, does invoking /usr/local/texlive/2014/bin/x86_64-darwin/pdflatex result in a successful run?

I was a little surprised that (say) pdflatex wasn't in /usr/local/bin, but no big problem---I simply added /usr/local/texlive/2014/bin/x86_64-darwin to my PATH. But upon running pdflatex (either from the command line or from within Aquamacs/AUCTeX), I get a message saying that the format file pdflatex.fmt wasn't found. But
