I usually use pdflatex and xelatex only. But since this was called pretest, I was curious.

I'll try blacklisting the fonts.

It took some time, running luaotfload for 30 minutes at 100 % CPU sounded wrong.
(And it is summer, I don't need the heating.)
I now blacklisted all the > 10 MB Asian fonts[1], otfload took about a minute.

My lualatex test file works.

Do I want to debug the blacklisted fonts to find the culprit? Not really.
