[OS X TeX] OS 10.6.8 and app store

It's free, so my recommendation would be to have a Mac using friend follow the instructions at http://www.macworld.com/article/2367748/how-to-make-a-bootable-os-x-10-10-yosemite-install-drive.html and then mail you the resulting USB drive. I'm not sure what's causing your problem but this might be the least anxiety-inducing way to fix it, even if it doesn't really get to the root of the problem.
