Howdy,
I've always used cocoAspell. It installs a System Preference Pane and uses an internal version of Aspell, a LaTeX aware spell checker. After installing you need to go to the Preference Pane, select the dictionary (there are more dictionaries available at the WEB site), activate being LaTeX aware and activate cocoAspell. You can then choose the Aspell dictionary in TeXShop's Edit->Show Spelling and Grammar menu item (it will have an (Aspell) in it's name). From then on you just use TeXShop's Edit->Check Spelling, etc., like any other application. Go to <http://people.ict.usc.edu/~leuski/cocoaspell/> for more details.
Good Luck,
