Folks,

I can see the slight distortion when using horizontal scrolling on the Retina display. As reported,
this is easily fixed by a slight zoom and restore. I'll look into it.

Later messages in the thread suggested comparing TeXShop and other PDFKit based apps
with Adobe Reader, TeXworks, and other apps with different pdf engines.. Before doing this comparison,
it is important to understand how applications work on the Retina display.

Using "Get Info" with an application on the Retina display reveals an extra item called
"Open In Low Resolution". When an application is written with Cocoa, like TeXShop and
Preview, this item is active, but unchecked because Cocoa applications generally work
on the Retina display without extra coding. When an application is written with Carbon
or other frameworks, the item is generally inactive and checked because such
applications require programmer support to take advantage of the Retina display. Applications
can add an extra element to their Info.plist saying that they are "retina aware" and then
the item becomes active.

Doing the comparison without checking this item risks comparing applications running in low
resolution against applications running with Retina display support. For instance, on my machine
both Adobe Reader and the latest TeXworks have an inactive element and thus are running
in low resolution.
