In LaTeXiT you can draw at the dot like handle below the window with the output. Now you see the preamble LaTeXiT is using. You can add
\usepackage{lmodern}
or the corresponding fontspec commands. And see whether you get what you want...
LaTeXiT allows you to store a few different preambles for XeTeX or pdfTeX or ...
