There was no bug in updmap!!! It was something stupid I did many years ago in my .bash_profile; useful then but quite stupid now.

I, again, see that you have the Users folder on a separate drive. If permissions are set correctly I'd guess that ~/Library/texlive/2012/texmf-var/... should get built (it does on my system) but it seems that there is a problem writing to ~/Library/texlive/... which makes me wonder what the permissions are for the ~/Library/texlive directory.

I would assume that those two updmap commands I gave in the previous e-mail failed in the same way as the one that is supposed to use the updmap.cfg file in ~/Library/texmf/web2c.
