Howdy,
TeX Live 2012 and MacTeX-2012 have been officially released. MacTeX-2012 supports Mac OS X 10.5 (Intel and PPC) [Leopard], Mac OS X 10.6 [Snow Leopard], Mac OS X 10.7 [Lion] and the upcoming OS X 10.8 [Mountain Lion].
MacTeX-2012 contains:
• The Full TeX Live 2012
• GUI Applications
• Ghostscript 9.05
• ImageMagick-Convert 6.7.6
and optional installs of Open Type versions of
• Latin-Modern-Fonts
• TeX-Gyre-Fonts
for general use with other Mac applications.
The MacTeX Web Site has been updated to point to the 2012 Web Pages so going to <http://www.tug.org/mactex/> will take you to the appropriate links. HOWEVER, as several of you have already found out, the link to the MacTeX.pkg is probably still dead. While MacTeX-2012 has been released it will take several days to propagate through the system to the repositories around the world. So please wait several days before overloading those systems with requests.
On thing to note: Previously MacTeX was distributed as a .mpkg.zip file since .(m)pkg ``files'' where actually folders that the OS displayed as though they were single files. Apple has now made .pkg files single (flat) files so the new MacTeX.pkg need no longer be zipped. (We had cases in the past where third party ``un-zip'' applications incorrectly unzipped the .mpkg.zip file and the installation failed.)
Finally we would like to thank the TeX Users Group for organizing the production of TeX Live 2012 and, especially, the hundreds of folks who helped put it together and test it. A special thanks goes out to the folks that put together and tested MacTeX-2012.
Good Luck,
Herb Schulz
