The removal of the one sort of binaries, possibly. It might help to forcibly remove that, but I do have some difficulties here. Maybe there is a bug, something not thought of, in tlmgr, that it refuses to remove to remove one architecture from a system that can execute more than one.

The other aspect, removing PPC/PPC64 components on an intel platform, or vice-versa, should not affect tlmgr. It usually does not check the state or nature of the binaries installed on disk, it just checks the records in its data base.
