Since it only appears in a contextual menu, I was wondering if there was any way to attach a keyboard shortcut to it. It might not work, but that's my question.

Is there a reason you believe that that Sync command is synching with the position of the insertion point? It still appears that it's synching (poorly) with the position of the mouse pointer. So that command isn't doing what you want.
