[OS X TeX] \hfill confusion

I am confused about \hfill. On my system it won't push a minipage all the way to the right. Here is an illustrative script.

   \documentclass{article} 
   \usepackage[parfill]{parskip}
   \thispagestyle{empty}
   
   \begin{document}
   xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx
   xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx

   \begin{minipage}{2.0in}
   xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx
   \end{minipage}
   \hfill
   \begin{minipage}{2.0in}
   xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx
   \end{minipage}

   \end{document}

The second minipage does not get pushed to the right-hand border. So how do I push a minipage to the right-hand border of a page?

I'm attaching a picture of the output of the above script.
