[OS X TeX] eps to pdf conversion

Dear list,

I have an eps figure in illustrator CS5 which when I drop on TexShop gives me  an empty pdf (same when I typeset with \includegraphics). If I open the eps in preview, or if I save as pdf from inside AI CS5, the graphic is fine. Any ideas about how to troubleshoot?
