[OS X TeX] package cmex (?) on Texlive-2009

Dear all,

I am having difficulties compiling a latex file that used to work under 
a previous version.

I am using texlive-2009 with TeXShop under Mac OS 10.6.

I get the error message

!pdfTeX error: /usr/texbin/pdflatex (file fmex8.pfb): cannot open Type 1 
font f
ile for reading
  ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!

indeed there is no fmex8.pbf in /usr/local/texlive
while there is one in 
/usr/localgwTeX/texmf.texlive/fonts/type1/public/cmex/fmex8.pfb

I could solve the problem by switching from texlive to gwTeX as a TeX 
distribution.

I understood that this font is part of the cmex package but I could not 
find it in the list of the texlive package. Is there any good reason for 
that ?

How can I get the file to compile with texlive ? I cannot compile using 
postcript files in gwTeX, I find it annoying if I have to swich between 
distribution depending on the file I am compiling
