FYI, if you have not heard about it already: This is probably bad news
for many Emacs users on the Mac. Carbon Emacs package was an easy way to
use Emacs on Mac OS X. It worked just as other Emacsen would behave on
Windows and on Linux. Of course, it also included AUCTeX.
Seiji Zenitani now unfortunately has announced that he will close his
project
<http://groups.google.com/group/carbon-emacs/msg/300376de48c5e77b?hl=en>
So there will be no more Carbon Emacs package
<http://homepage.mac.com/zenitani/emacs-e.html> This is due to changes
in the support of Mac OS X in the Emacs project as from Emacs 23.
Maintanance of Carbon Emacs in the Emacs project ended some time before:
<http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2008-05/msg00342.html>
Ever since, there is only the Next Step Emacs which so far is a rather
crude solution.
David Reitter has announced he will maintain his Aquamacs 1.* based on
Emacs 22 <http://aquamacs.org/> but new features will only be introduced
in Aquamacs 2
<http://groups.google.com/group/carbon-emacs/msg/d52f306c9f007f97?hl=en>
The difference between Aquamacs and Carbon Emacs is that the former is
modified so as to behave more like a Macintosh app by default, including
key bindings, fonts etc. So you have to change quite a lot in order to
make it work like you would expect your Emacs to behave ...

Jürgen.
