[OS X TeX] Snow Leopard font problems

Thanks (as always) for the quick, informative tips.  The problem isn't  
solved yet, though....

a) @ David Watson: I had already tried to fix this via FontBook, doing  
"Resolve Duplicates" for every font that was flagged that way.  No help.

b) @ Herbert Schulz: the engine file you refer to are nowhere to be  
found on my system, so I can't follow your advice.  But since the same  
thing does not happen with other files compiled with ordinary LaTeX,  
the issue must somehow be related to XeLaTeX.

Perhaps I have to wait for TeX Live 2009? Or is there some other way  
to update XeLaTeX?

The resulting pdf has long blank spaces in both the place of \url{}  
material and the \texttt{}.  The problem isn't apparent to me from  
this, but it may be to you.
