This gives me:

/usr/local/texlive/2009/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf:% TEXDOCSSUFFIX   = ;.pdf;.ps;.dvi;.html;.txt;.tex
/usr/local/texlive/2009/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf:% TEXDOCSCOMPRESS = ;.gz;.bz2;.zip;.Z
/usr/local/texlive/2009/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf:% TEXDOCEXT       = {$TEXDOCSSUFFIX}{$TEXDOCSCOMPRESS}
/usr/local/texlive/2009/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf:TEXDOCS = .;$TEXMF/doc//

And this gives me:

/usr/texbin/texdoc

A command like texdoc 'texdoc microtype' gives me 'The file /Users/simi/Library/texmf/doc/latex/microtype/microtype.pdf does not exist.' which means that it only searches in ~/Library/texmf.

Thanks for your help
