You could create DVI and convert this to PNG (with dvipng). Or use
GNU Emacs with AUCTeX as LaTeX front end. AUCTeX has preview-mode
built in which converts mathematical formulas into PNG graphics and
inserts them in place of the original LaTeX code.
Or use LaTeXiT to produce the graphics output.
Similarly Mac OS X allows to copy a marked region of a PDF file into
pasteboard which then can be pasted into a graphics aware application.
Another option is to write im MathML. This language is meant to be
rendered as graphics output by the web browser. Maybe this document
explains a few things: http://www.maths.nottingham.ac.uk/personal/drw/
lm.html. TeX4HT also can produce MathML output!
Wikipedia uses (mostly?) graphics inserts to display maths.
