Of course but I am just as inept with Applescript as I am with  
Terminal, just less afraid. But, as it turns out, a fairy just sent  
me an applescript which I will try tonight.

I don't believe in randomness, particularly not coming from  
computers. As I said, I think that the order in which the files are  
opened has to do with the order in which they were last saved,  
something like "last saved first opened".

As several pointed out, I can control the list as it is displayed by  
the Finder so that if the system would just be dumb enough to open  
the files in the reverse order from the "listed" order, the files  
would be opened with the first file displayed on top of the pile.  
But, no, the Tiger thinks it knows what's good for me and leaves me  
NO control.
