(1) Let me first say that I absolutely trust Koch's judgement in the
matter and so that I do not think that there is any danger of TeXShop
getting out of hand.
(2) Watson kind of convinced me that a switch in the Preferences
would make maintenance more difficult, probably to a degree out of
proportion with what would be gained. Besides, screens are getting
larger.
(3) I should perhaps begin by saying again that, had it not been for
TeXShop a few years ago, I would never have gotten started in LaTeX
and that, in fact, I am still using 2.18 on a Wierda installation
"out of the box". In other words, I am an old new user.
This being said, I don't see how one more button in the preferences
would have made such a big difference for the users including myself.
