Ok, I just did what you explained, and it seemed that it worked.

Yes, and they say:
	16/07/09 1:07:04 AM runner[1103] postflight[1113]: X11 exists; using  
appropriate gs
and at the end:
	16/07/09 1:07:08 AM Installer[1074] Displaying 'Install Succeeded' UI.
so the re-install was ok this time.

Maybe the installation problem was related to some blocked file  
access, as TimeMachine was unfortunately starting a backup while I was  
installing TexLive 2009. I only noticed afterwards :-(
Anyway, after updating the "Tex Distribution" Preference Pane you sent  
and restarting once, : I can see both TexLive-2008 and -2009  
Distributions.
