Howdy,
In an attempt to make eps graphics inclusion when using pdflatex a bit
more transparent tere have been some significant changes in the
graphics sub-system (graphcic(s/x) and epstopdf packages) in the up
and coming MacTeX(TeX Live)-2009.
1)The graphic(s/x) package now loads the epstopdf package when
compiling with pdflatex.
2)The default options for the epstopdf package is now [update,append]
which may have consequences if you don't use file extensions in your
graphics inclusion.
3)To avoid any problems with destroying an existing special foo.pdf
file when a foo.eps->foo.pdf conversion takes place the default
conversion is now foo.eps->foo-eps-converted-to.pdf.
The third option leads to problems when using latexmk 4.08 and earlier
since the base file name is changing. There is now an updated version
of latexmk, 4.10, that will work properly with MacTeX(TeX Live)-2009.
It is also backward compatible with MacTeX(TeX Live)-2008 and earlier.
I suggest that anyone who is using previous versions of latexmk with
TeXShop update to this latest version by downloading
Latexmk410TeXShop.zip from <http://homepage.mac.com/herbs2>.
Installation is very easy and instructions are enclosed with the rest
of the files in that archive. There is also information in the
installation document about how to make epstopdf in MacTeX(TeX
Live)-2009 behave as it previously did by using the [update,prepend]
options and foo.eps->foo.pdf.
Good Luck,
Herb Schulz
