Proofs can be switched on/off by first defining and using the commands
\newcommand{\bp}{\begin{proof}}
\newcommand{\ep}{\end{proof}}
and later commenting or uncommenting
\renewcommand{\bp}{\begin{comment}}
\renewcommand{\ep}{\end{comment}}
