[OS X TeX] Startup Items and Shutdown Items folders for TeXShop

Aloha,

The BBEdit text editor has among its plethora of features "Startup Items" and "Shutdown Items" folders in the ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/BBEdit folder. For example, any applescript in the "Startup Items" folder gets executed upon BBEdit launching and any other kind of file, folder or application there gets opened.

Now, such features can be implemented (with some caveats; see below) with a preference pane called Do Something When (DSW) <http://www.azarhi.com/Projects/DSW/> and Applescript applications you can find here <http://www2.hawaii.edu/~ramonf/TeXShop/StartupShutdowItems.zip> with examples (For BBAutoComplete, Flashmode and TeX FoG) and detailed instructions.

Tip: put aliases to documents you want automatically opened on each TeXShop launch into the Startup Items folder.

Because DSW works by detecting when an application quits and launches (it can also watch for volumes mounting) we have that the items in the Shutdown Items folder get executed/opened when TeXShop quits and not when it is about to quit, then we cannot write scripts that would, for example, clean all auxiliary files corresponding to the open documents.

It would be nice if TeXShop had this capability built-in without the above caveat (feature request).

Enjoy!

Ramón
