I think I have a pretty simple system. My texmf tree is relatively  
small and my particular LaTeX file is not complex (it doesn't seem to  
matter which LaTeX file I use, by the way).

This issue reduces my productivity on my desktop. I haven't installed  
the new MacTeX on my notebook and it is much faster. (Similar to your  
timing I think... I'll check when I get to work.)

Thanks so much, Maarten. I appreciate the help. I checked the obvious  
things (to me at least) and made no progress.
