Howdy,

Because you installed the standard TeX Live distribution rather than  
MacTeX (which is TeX Live plus some very convenient setup) you should  
be placing files in ~/texmf/... rather than ~/Library/texmf/... . Hope  
you don't have problems with $PATH, etc. but be on the lookout for  
that; e.g., TeXShop assumes the path to the TeX binaries is /usr/ 
texbin which is a symbolic link set up by the TeX Distribution System  
Preference Pane.
