So you are not using MacTeX to install TeXLive?

I would recommend MacTeX, as it sets the paths according to what's  
needed for the Mac platform.

If you're using the Unix-Linux distribution, then your TeX $HOME  
directory is ~/texmf (at the root of your HOME), not ~/Library/texmf.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
