That's a bit strange ... This file should be found in /usr/local/ 
texlive/2008/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/tetex, with a few others.

	sudo updmap-sys --syncwithtrees

is the recommended means. First check what the directory /usr/local/ 
texlive/2008/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/tetex contains. I see there:
