I myself have misinterpreted the question as being about the pdf output. 
Sorry, for the irrelevant latex code. About the Editors: Emacs is very 
powerful in that aspect, they say the most elaborated one on Earth. It 
does great job in displaying matching parenthesis and their scopes; 
choosing how that to be done among several alternatives, etc. It also has 
a great feature of automatic indentation of nested environments.

I would recommend the indentation of environments to be implemented in 
TeXShop, if this has not yet been done. I myself could not trigger it by 
trying what I already know from Emacs: hit the Tab while the cursor is in 
the line of a command and get it properly indented.
