[OS X TeX] LaTeXit inserts inline text too high.

That does not solve your problem (I wish it would: I'm Pages user  
too!), but for OpenOffice and NeoOffice the OOoLaTeX macros do perform  
baseline correction (using PNG or EMF, not PDF):
