Since it does depend on your distro, instructions will vary--I assume
you are a linux user, since there are binaries available for OSX, as
it says---but you'll need the various tools listed at
http://code.google.com/p/texworks/
You'll have to find a list somewhere of what packages are installed on
your machine; look for some listing of developer tools.
The main things to look for seem to be Qt4, poppler, hunspell, and gcc4.
To install these you can follow the links on the page mentioned above.
I don't know if this is suitably non-pro for you, and it doesn't give
specific steps, but maybe it gets you started.
