Well, then indeed the solution would be to put the label at the item  
end:

\item
The line joining a planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal  
times as the planet travels around the Sun.\label{Kepler2}

Though item 2 would start at page 1 and end at page 2, unless you do  
a manual page break.
