But what if you want a display formula? How is Grapher going to know  
if you want your formula in text or display mode, especially if you  
have \int or \sum? I think is better just \frac... and let you decide.

On the other hand, you get

y=\frac{1}{2}x \times \sqrt{x}

if you type it that way.
