Howdy,

Nope, I'm using 10.5 and it is set to \W, which is ok with me. If I  
write an extended command line the line wraps properly and doesn't  
write over itself.

By the way, here is what man bash says about configuration files:

it first reads and executes commands from the file /etc/profile, if  
that file exists.  After reading that file, it looks for  
~/.bash_profile, ~/.bash_login, and ~/.profile,
in that order, and reads and executes commands from the first one that  
exists and is readable.
