The _ is reserved for sub-scripts in LaTeX, to get an _ character you  
must use the command \_, that's \ and then _ not \ and .. This  
behavior is just like other special characters, e.g., \$ to get the $  
in print. Oh... if you do escape the _ with \ before it TeXShop won't  
enter the {}!
