But more seriously, to the original poster, I don't know what the
reasons were for only a cursory look at emacs, but, for Mac users,
aquamacs gives an already configured latex editing environment (using
auctex) that is the most mature and feature rich environment (it
includes folding and indentation, not to mention excellent parenthesis
matching[also for $...$]) I have used
(http://aquamacs.org/latex.shtml) . It seems to me that Aquamacs has,
at least, largely solved the "not very Mac-like" complaint that new
emacs users on Macs seem to have, but I won't claim to know exactly
what all those are.
