[OS X TeX] `amsmath.sty' not found

Probably. Did you read the package listing/bill of materials (sh ./ 
install-pkg.sh --collection=basic --listonly | grep amsmath)?

If you want, you can use mpm, the MiKTeX Package Manager (http:// 
www.miktex.org/unx/). There is also on the DVD the tlpmgui Tcl/Tk  
script in TeXCol2006-2007/texlive/setuptl. I think it's not available  
for *some* BSD. Maybe you can use the sources from GUST and make them  
run on your BSD system.

``sh ./install-pkg.sh --package=amsmath´´ would install the missing  
file from the DVD.
