[OS X TeX] Problems with nested lists?

As requested, the output from the example above on my system:

    1. A
<bullet> aa
<bullet> bb
    2. B
    3. C

Indentation is clearly *not* nested.  (Sorry, can't represent a
bullet, so just imagine one...)  As I mentioned, the enumerate package
cleared this up, so there's obviously something amiss with my stock
setup.
