Pete,
The default gwTeX setup is to create formats and map files system-
wide, namely inside /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.local, independent on
whether the input files and map file fragments used for this are
installed system-wide , namely inside /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.pkgs, or
are installed used-specific, namely inside ~/Library/texmf. This was
done to emulate the behaviour of teTeX 2 I think.
Actually, if I'm not mistaken, upon install gwTeX makes updmap
synonymous to updmap-sys. Accordingly I think your suggestion would
simply not work, or give unpredictable results. In order to allow
user-specific setups, and restore updmap its default behaviour on
teTeX 3 and TexLive, you would have to install the gwTeX i-Package in
i-Installer in Expert mode: the choice of whether or not to allow
user-specific setups (default choice: no) is the last one at the end
of the Configure stage.
Accordingly, concerning the original poster's question: in case the
map file fragments for Minion Pro have been installed inside /usr/
local/gwTeX/texmf.pkgs, you need to run:
sudo -H updmap-sys --enable Map MinionPro.map
(the "-u root" flag is I think implicit when "-H" is used), and in
case the map file fragments have been installed inside ~/Library/
texmf you need to run:
sudo updmap-sys --enable Map MinionPro.map
