[OS X TeX] updating TeXLive and font maps?

You appear to be correct. :-) Doing as you suggest was the magic bullet.

No, it turns out that I did have mtpro2.map in two locations:

/Users/gray/Library/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/mtpro2/mtpro2.map

and in:

/Users/gray/Library/texmf/dvips/mtpro2/mtpro2.map

The latter is the one that I removed.

It is. That is where I had one, but I had another in yet a second  
location.
