Howdy,

I'd set the default command to LaTeX instead of TeX. Set it in  
TeXShop->Preferences->Typesetting. You can also force the LaTeX  
compile (rather than the default) by using the  Typeset->LaTeX menu  
command (Cmd-Shift-L) rather than Typeset->Typeset (Cmd-T).
