Yes, but you have no preview and you can't select from the printer a  
different feeder, rotate the output, or print it two pages on one  
sheet, either on one side or on both sides ... Lpr is too generic to  
be able to do such things (although some jobs could be realised with  
some effort).

AppleScript seems to be the only choice to get the printing user  
interface on screen!
