Howdy,

I don't know if this will help, but you might try to install the  
MusixTeX i-package.

The documentation that comes with it still uses bit maps but you can  
re-compile it and it will use type1 fonts (well, the documentation  
still uses some bitmapped fonts that aren't used in the musixtex  
package).
