Hi,
Could you help me with this problem?
I've tried to use the package tipa (necessary to insert IPA phonetic
characters) in my latex document. I've downloaded the package from the
CTAN repository and unzipped it in the
/Users/souto/Library/texmf/tex/latex directory. I run sudo updmap. I
put \usepackage{tipa} in the preamble and then use \textipa{É} in the
text.
However, the document doesn't compile.
Is that everything I need to do to use a new package? Any ideas?
Thank you very much!! Manuel
PS My preamble says:
%! program = pdflatex
\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} % more utf-8
\usepackage[arabic,spanish,catalan,british]{babel}
\usepackage[OT2,OT1,LAE,LFE,T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{tipa}
\usepackage{geometry} % see geometry.pdf on how to lay out the page.
There's lots.
\usepackage{palatino}
\geometry{a4paper} % or letter or a5paper or ... etc
% \geometry{landscape} % rotated page geometry
The console says:
LaTeX Font Warning: Font Shape `T3/ppl/m/n' undefined
(Font) using `T3/ppl/m/n' instead of input line 36.
! Package inputenc Error: Unicode char \u8:É not set for use with latex.
See the inputenc package documentation for explanation.
