Thanks for the clarification. I always forget about this directory  
~/.texlive2007 for TeXLive-2007. I imagine it is populated when  
updmap is used instead of updmap-sys.

O those dreaded .files and ./directories, a Unix inheritance I really  
wish Mac OS X had done without! There is a place in OS X for such  
configuration  files, it's ~/Library/, allowing them to be out of the  
way but still visible. It's a pity that ports of Unix software don't  
all adhere strictly to that OS X usage.
