[OS X TeX] tex files and smart folders

I have a smart folder which contains all of my "TeX Documents".  it  
only collects files i've created with the latest version of texshop.   
if i open a file created in an older version of texshop, and save it  
using the latest version of texshop, then it appears in my smart  
folder.  is there some way to get it to recognize the meta-info for  
all of my tex documents?    i.e. why is it version dependent?
