[OS X TeX] newcomer: TexTures info

No, the fonts used in that document are the Palatino fonts called  
through their Textures built-in metrics (with names Palatino,  
PalatinoI, PalatinoB and PalatinoBI).

Typesets fine here. See screenshot <http://homepage.mac.com/

and OS X Textures side-by-side.

What I did:

- Create a folder /Library/Application Support/Textures/Inputs/, put  
inside an alias of the TeX Inputs folder of Classic Textures (for me  
Textures 2.1).

- Create similarly a folder /Library/Application Support/Textures/ 
Metrics/, put inside an alias of the TeX Fonts folder of Classic  
Textures.

That's it! In case you created custom formats, these go to /Library/ 
Application Support/Textures/Formats/.

Using /Library/Application Support/Textures/ is one option, allowing  
all users of your Mac to use Textures. Another option, the only one  
mentioned in the Installation section of the Textures 2.2.0a page  
<http://www.bluesky.com/news/220a.html>, is to use ~/Library/ 
Application Support/Textures/ (i.e. the same folder but inside your  
home directory), which will make Textures work only from your user  
account.

For example, I put personal TeX and LaTeX input files inside ~/ 
Library/Application Support/Textures/Inputs/. For those using TeX  
Live or gwTeX, this plays exactly the same role as ~/Library/texmf/tex/.

I must admit I feel happy to see there are still Textures users  
around. When Textures 2.2.0a was released, I planned to start using  
it regularly, to see how well it performed compared with the already  
established OS TeX front-ends, namely TeXShop and iTeXMac. But, due  
to the lack of the most basic editing functionalities (like search- 
and-replace, go to line, block comment, ...) and to the lack of  
support of virtual fonts, I had to give up.

That said, in the absence of any news about Textures since early  
August 2006, after the sudden surge of visible activity in July 2006,  
I'm feeling pessimistic again...
