I think this thread is revisiting the question I asked a few days ago: 
after installing acrobat 8 reader, that became the default PDF viewer in 
safari without my asking for it.  As one of you pointed out, one can 
control the browser-pdf application in acrobat (reader or regular) by 
going to preferences > internet.

I think I saw something like this some time ago when safari preferences 
could control the default browser.  At that time, safari was fairly 
primitive and I preferred something else and had trouble getting my wish.
