[OS X TeX] Word Count

I have searched the archive, using the keyword "word count". Although
there are several suggestions given before, I haven't seen an answer
directly fits my bill.

Is there a quick way to do the word count in TeXShop, not for the
whole document, but for some range of text selected by the author?

For example, I would like to know how many words in the abstract. What
I usually did was to copy and paste the abstract into a new document,
gave it a name, and saved the new document (no need to compile
though), then did the word count.

Is there a quicker way?

Thanks in advance.
